Joints are a very important part of our body that we often forget to nourish, but as time goes by, they start reminding us they’re present in out body and need attention.
Joint pain affects millions of people worldwide, and it can occur due to injuries, sprains, and conditions like gout, osteoarthritis, bursitis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Joint pain can affect any body area, and it worsens with aging. It can be chronic (that lasts for months) or acute (that lasts for a few weeks or days.)
Research has found that one-third of all adults experience some type of joint pain every month. The most common body areas affected by joint pain are the ones involved in repetitive movements or that take the brunt of the body’s weight, like the knees, hips, low back, neck, shoulders, and ankles.
In case you suffer from joint pain, you should avoid the following foods:
White flour goods are refined carbs, and they have an extremely high glycemic index and support the creation of AGE, which causes inflammation.
Highly processed sugars, like sodas, candy, and chocolate, induce the discharge of cytokines, which are inflammation messengers and lead to swelling and joint pain.
Dairy products can be highly inflammatory for some people, especially in those who consume a lot of milk products.
RED-COLORED AND PROCESSED MEAT
These meats are rich in purine and nitrate, chemicals that aggravate the inflammation and pain in the joints, and trigger swellings.
Many packed and pre-made meals are high in salt, and refined sodium is loaded with additives and chemicals that can seriously harm health and worsen joint pain.
Many snack foods and baked goodies contain corn oil and also other natural oils found in snacks and baked foods are rich in omega-6 essential fatty acids and lead to swellings and inflammation. Instead, focus on healthier anti-inflammatory omega-3 alternatives such as nuts, olive oil, flaxseed, and pumpkin seed products.
Monosodium glutamate or MSG is a flavor-enhancing ingredient, often added to soy sauce, and other junk foods, sauces, salad dressings, and deli meat, and triggers inflammatory reactions in the body and aggravates joint pain.
Alcohol is not just tough on your liver. Excessive drinking aggravates joint pain, and the purines in beer are turned into uric acid crystals in the body, which drastically worsen the condition.
On the other hand, in case of arthritis and joint pain, you should increase the intake of the following foods, since they strengthen the immune system, fight inflammation, and improve bone and joint health:
Citrus fruits- oranges, grapefruit, limes
Oatmeal, brown rice, whole-grain cereals
Red beans, pinto beans, kidney beans
Salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring
Tofu and edamame
Olive, avocado, sunflower oil
Nuts, such as walnuts, pine nuts, pistachios and almonds
